At the European level electro-technical standards are developed by CENELEC and telecommunication standards by ETSI. CEN develops standards for multiple sectors (chemistry, construction, consumer products, energy, environment, food, healthcare, health and safety, heating - cooling - ventilation and air conditioning, information society, materials, mechanical engineering such as machinery and pressure equipment, metrology, nanotechnology, security & defence, services, transport, etc.). At the international level, the respective standardisation bodies are IEC, ITU and ISO.
In all standardisation bodies’ websites, a database and a search engine can be found.
We sent a questionnaire to the NSOs asking about their sale policy of standards. As not all the organisations gave us their reply the information below might be incomplete. For more accurate information about acquiring a standard you can either go to the website of one of the NSOs or contact it via email.
Please keep in mind that all the EN standards adopted on a national level are the same and as there are price differences between the countries it might be beneficial to acquire a standard or a collection of standards form a foreign NSO.
Similarly, foreign abstracts are relevant for all the EN standards. However, you should also be aware that in special cases national annexes can be added to indicate the possible deviations from the standard or easier implementation.
