PROTYPOS NORMAPME AWARD for personality of the year
NORMAPME celebrates on May 3 rd for the first time the “PROTYPOS - PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AWARD”. After the 10 years anniversary and the WORLD STANDARD’S day dedicated to SMEs in 2006, it was deemed appropriate to initiate in 2007 the first award for the personality that has most helped the cause of SMEs in standardisation.
Over the years and since the NORMAPME’s beginnings, personalities have in remarkable and exceptional ways supported and helped the interests of SMEs and crafts in the field of standardisation achieving for them success, recognition and the position they have today in the European and international context. We are proud of all these developments and want to express our recognition and gratitude to those who have helped all along to this success by distributing an annual award.

STUTTGART Conference highlights importance of direct dialogue and common
view
The 4th European Conference on Craft and Small Enterprises came to a successful end after two days of workshops, discussions and contact making. Session 4 was dedicated to standardisation. Loucas Gourtsoyannis, Director of NORMAPME, suggested a number of measures by which small enterprises could better understand and take advantage of standards. He suggested that simplified wording and implementation manuals for existing standards would encourage the adoption by SMEs, while future norms should be drafted only after taking the needs of smaller businesses into consideration. Mr Detlef Stauch, Secretary General of the International Federation of Roofing Contractors (IFD), Germany, dealt with the topic “Involving craft and small enterprises in the standardisation process in the EU Member States”. He pointed out that crafts and small enterprises in the construction sector have generally a limited say in the standardisation process at different levels. The high number of Technical Committees, language issues, time and cost factors
are the main obstacles to their involvement.
